Starburst!

Welcome back to another week on the ol' blog. Today's shot started off as a nice shot of a flower against what I consider to be a fairly busy background. Since I already had another conventionally (read minimally) processed shot of the same flower, I decided to have a bit of fun with this one. Its the first time in ages I've had to step out of the Nikon RAW converter (Capture NX2) for any of my processing as what I usually do is basic stuff. For this one, most of the work went into the background.

As usual all comments and critiques are welcome.

I think you did right with that busy background, love the clarity of the centre too.

LOL....this is sooo not what I expected from you bud. It's interesting though I'm not sure the colours all balance well. I feel that the part in the centre is a bit too still compared to that on the periphery

Stan: That was the aim. Razor sharp center versus motion blur on the outside. You're right about the colours but I wasnt prepared for more editing. Perhaps I'll tweak the colours later

just wondering why you chose to wash out the flower petals

my guess is you wanted it to be blinding bright so my gut reaction would be woah!

Stan: By washed out I guess you mean blown out? Nothing in the scene is blown out (in fact some colours are slightly underexposed). Glad you like it

washed out...blown out...either way, i'm referring to the lack of detail on the whites (not that i personally need it)

i guess i should go check my monitor calibration

Stan: LOL, my monitor isn't calibrated either (don't know how I've gotten away with it for so long) but I trust the histogram to manage my exposure
